Mission
The mission of the Stamford High School Library is to provide the SHS community with a vibrant environment for lifelong learning and collaborative teaching. Aligned with state and national standards, the library program facilitates the acquisition of information literacy skills to ensure that all students become skillful and ethical reseachers, evaluators and communicators of ideas and information. Teacher librarians and library staff guide students in all phases of their research and recreational reading needs.
Services
The Library Media and Technology Center provides all students and staff with a wide range of information resources in a variety of formats from both within and outside the school. These include books, newspapers, magazines, dvds, and playaways (audio books), as well as Internet access to subscription databases, email, and the World Wide Web.
Procedures for checking out materials:
- You need a student ID
- 3 weeks for fiction and nonfiction books
- Overnight for reference books
- Can renew as many times as you like
- No limit to number of checkouts
- Overdues sent at the end of the month through your English teacher, no fines
- Lost book, we ask for small contribution to replace, ask a librarian
- Cannot check out materials if you have an overdue

Rules
- All school rules apply in the library.
- Respect the rights of others to work effectively.
- No food or drinks.
- Appropriate language only!
- Show care when using all library resources.
- From 7:25 until 2:05, students must have a pass to visit the library unless they are with a class or coming during a lunch wave.
- If you are visiting from lunch, you must enter through the 6th floor entrance and sign in at the circulation desk upon arrival. You must stay in the library for the remainder of the wave, no passes. Please have your lunch before or after you visit.
- You must have a student ID to check out materials.
- Please return your books on time. You may not check out other materials if anything is overdue.
- Do not leave the library before the bell rings unless you have a pass specifying you are to return to class.

Computer Use Guidelines
- You must agree to the terms set forth in the District Acceptable Use Policy
- Library computers are available primarily for educational use. Academic use always has priority over recreational use.
- Do not install or remove any software on our computers.
- All software installed on our computers is copyrighted. do not copy, distribute or alter it.
- Print only what you really need. Do not waste our limited ink and paper resources.
- Respect other people's files. Do not change, copy, read or access files that are not yours.
- Do not bypass any security measures installed on the school computers.
- Treat our computers as you would treat your own--with respect.

THIS PROGRAM WILL BEGIN MID-OCTOBER
The Homework Center (HWC) is located in the lower level of the Media Center. It is an after school tutoring program available to any SHS student wanting assistance. One-on-one and small-group tutoring sessions are professionally staffed by members of the SHS faculty and volunteers from the school's National Honor Society until 3:15PM, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
