Animal Rights Club - Advisor:  Jess DiBuono
This club strives to help protect animals in and beyond our community. The club meets weekly to discuss a range of community service activities to help animals in need. The club promotes awareness of animal abuse as well as raises money and donations to help local animals in need. Our food and toy drive for animals is an annual event that helps thousands of animals in Stamford, CT.

Anime Club – Advisor:  Ms. Johnson
Students convene to watch the latest version of anime (still in Japanese).  Characters and techniques are also discussed.  For those students with artistic talents, we also work on drawing characters old and new.  We are hoping to attend a national anime convention in New York in April or May.  The club meets Wednesdays.

An-Noor Society – Advisor: TBA
A club designed for students to explore and learn more about the Islamic culture as well as to build bridges of understanding between the diverse communities at Stamford High School.  The club meets Tuesdays.

Art Club – Advisor: Mr. Cusano
This club provides artistic opportunities that enrich our school community and individuals.  Club activities include community outreach, museum trips, guest artists and various studio art workshop experiences.

Asian Club – Advisor:  Ms. Chaikind
This club is to help the school community learn about the Asian culture.  Students share aspects of their heritage.  Meets Mondays/Thursdays after school.

Aspira – Advisor:  Ms. Malave
Our goal is two-fold:  community service/leadership and cultural awareness.  Meets after school every Tuesday.

Beautify Stamford High – Advisor:  TBA
The focus of the club is to fundraise for major beautification projects like clearing the courtyard.  It also focuses on beauty/maintenance around school like weeding and trash pickup.  The goal of the club is to create ownership of the school environment and promote volunteerism.  The club also supports the initiatives of Keep Stamford Beautiful.

Biology Club – Advisor:  Mr. Halmeck
The club allows students to decide the direction, but most recently the club’s activities have consisted of two annual trips:  The Boston Science Museum/Aquarium and the Annual Whale Watch.  Meets monthly by announcement.

Black Diamond Drill Team – Advisor:  Mr. Moynahan
Drilling, stepping and clapping on a beat.  Making formations and competing with other schools.  Meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 – 4:30.

Book Discussion Club Description – Advisor:  Ms. George
Students and staff are invited to attend a monthly discussion centered on a book selected by active participants.  Books are available in the Media Center prior to the meeting.  We have purchased multiple copies of books since we received grant money from FOSH, and we also borrow multiple copies of books from the Ferguson Library.  Flyers are posted throughout the school and in the media center before a meeting, and announcements are made a day prior to the meeting. 

Breaking the Barriers of Languages – Advisor:  Mrs. Drugge
Foreign-born students enjoy an “American speaking” afternoon using activities such as games for interaction with American-born students.  Meets every other Tuesday after school.

Building with Books – Advisors:  Mrs. Lucia, Mrs. Hempstead
We raise money to build schools in third world countries such as Mali,  Nepal, Nicaragua, Haiti and Malawi.  We also require our members to do eight hours of community service a month as well as participate in global education activities.  Meets Wednesdays after school.

Cancer Awareness – Advisor:  Ms. Chacra
Come and help cancer patients that are in need.  Come and help us fundraise and touch people’s hearts while you do so.  Meets every other Monday.

Chess Club – Advisor:  Mr. Sartor
Come to play chess and practice for local tournaments.  Everyone is welcome !  Meets on Mondays and Thursdays after school.

Chemistry Club – Advisor:  Mr. Sartor
To enable students to immerse themselves in the field of chemistry through a variety of means, including but not limited to the following:  applying fundamental concepts in experiments, exploring career opportunities in chemistry through field trips and guest speakers, investigating the application of chemistry to everyday life, and helping to share understanding of and expertise in chemistry with younger students and peers via elementary school visits and SHS peer tutoring.

Color Guard – Advisor:  TBA
Color guard is all about dance, movement and our equipment.  Come and learn how to spin as well as toss rifles, sabers, flags, etc.  Meets in the fall Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the Stamford High Band room.

Concert Choir – Advisor:  Mrs. Sinaguglia
An elective class consisting of students that love to sing. The group performs throughout the
school year at school and community events.

Connecticut Challenge – Advisor:  Ms. Clark-Cozza
To meet on the 1st quarter of the year only.

CPEP-CT Pre-Engineering Program – Advisor:  Mr. Grillo
CPEP provides urban students the instruction and support in the study of match, science, and technology.  Through extra-curricular classes, hands-on activities, speakers and competitions, CPEP connects these students to real-life opportunities.

Debate Team – Advisor:  Mr. White
The club holds weekly meetings to prepare for debate meets which occur each month.  This club helps to build speaking and critical thinking skills, and knowledge of current events.  Meets Wednesdays after school.

DECA – Advisors:  Mr. Levy, Mr. Saldicco
The Distributive Education Clubs of America is a national club where students who participate learn the fundamentals of marketing and business.  The focus is on fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  There are state competitions and members help to manage the school store.  Dates to be announced.

Drama Club/Tech – Advisors:  Mrs. Nerreau; Mr. Desalvo
The award winning Drama Club is responsible for producing the fall play, the spring musical and several other productions during the year, also including a one act festival and a play to bring to the Connecticut Drama Association Festival, which the club has won, 4 of the last 6 years.  Meets Mondays after school in the auditorium.

Future Business Leaders of America – Advisor:  Ms. Cantow
FBLA is a national organization that prepares students for careers in the business world.  We are responsible for running th school store and providing students with practical business and leadership experience.  Meets monthly after school.

French Club – Advisor:  Ms. Anderson
Bonjour!  The French club is a good club to join if you want to learn about a new culture and new people.  Come and join to have fun while learning something new.  Meets Tuesdays after school.

G.H.O.S.T. – Advisor:  Ms. Cantow
General Hardware or Software Techies is a club that maintains and updates the school’s website.  Learn about web design and how to analyze and fix computer problems.  Meets Tuesdays 2:15 -3:30.

Haitian Club – Advisor:  Mrs. Salomon
This is a club where the Haitian students meet and celebrate traditional Haitian holidays.  Meets every Thursday.

History Club – Advisor:  TBA
Students meet to discuss historical issues, research local history, examine local issues, and plan history- based forums. This club meets Room 120 every Thursday after school.

History Day – Advisor:  TBA
The History Day Competition is a contest open to all students interested in independent research. Entries may be written papers, projects, media or dramatic presentations. Entries may be individual or group projects (up to five members). This group meets as needed.

H.U.G.S. – Advisor:  Ms. Norfleet; Ms. Segal
Help Unite Gays and Straights is open to all SHS students.  It helps promote tolerance through education and discussion.  Meets bi-monthly.

Interact Club – Advisors:  Mr. Gifford; Ms. Mackey-Chutan
The club participates in various community service projects such as gift wrapping, Earth Day clean up, and food drives.  It provides services with its affiliation with Big Brother/Big Sister, the Rotary Club, Salvation Army bell ringing, Pennies for Patients, etc.  Meets every other Monday.

Internet Development Team – Advisor:  TBA
The Internet Development Team maintains the Stamford High School website.  Students teach other students how to design a website, write HTML coding, set up tables, use scripts and program a web site from “scratch”.  The club is self funded to allow for the site to be hosted by its own server.  This allows for free expression within the guidelines set by the advisor.  The Team meets the first Wednesday of each month.

Investment Club – Advisor:  TBA
This club uses trading (Metastock) software to identify stocks with high, short-term growth potential.  Club participants also participate in State-sponsored stock market competition.  The club meets the first and third Thursday of every month.

Jazz Band – Advisor:  Mr. Beratis
This is a competitive jazz ensemble that studies and performs jazz and contemporary music during the winter.  Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30 – 4:30 in the band room.

 Junior State of America – Advisor:  TBA
The SHS Chapter of the JSA engages its members in their community to promote political awareness in the area.  The group is in the process of developing its own publication.  JSA chapters are the center of non-partisan political activity and awareness on campuses across the USA.  Typical chapter activities include student debates, voter education and registration drives.  The JSA also strives to participate in community service programs.  Every chapter is invited to attend three annual Regional Conventions.  The JSA is the largest student-run organization in the nation and holds Summer School and Symposia sessions, as well.  Meets every other Thursday.

Knightly Review - Advisors:  Ms. DeAngeles, Ms. Hadsell
The Knightly Reviewis Stamford High School's Literary Magazine. Along with the Creative Writing class, members of the club will write, edit, revise and publish their work! If you love to write creatively, this is the club for you!

Latin Club – Advisor:  Mrs. Grady
The Latin Club enables students taking Latin classes to explore Roman culture and civilization and to prepare the Connecticut State Latin Day.  Meetings are held after school four times a year.

Madrigals/Chamber Choir – Advisor:  Mrs. Sinaguglia
An auditioned a cappella group of singers, and an elective class.  They perform with and without the concert choir, and have a number of school and community performances throughout the year.  Meets every Tuesday night 5-7, and period 6 class.

Marching Band – Advisor:  Mr. Beratis
Marching Band is a competitive outdoor musical group, open to all students with musical experience in brass, woodwind and percussion.  Band camp begins in August and continues with competitions through late November.  Meets in the fall Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays.

Math Team – Advisors:  Ms. Amon, Mr. Welch
The Math Team takes competitive math exams at the county, state, and national level. It is an award winning team. Scores do not become a part of students' records unless they request them to be. The Math Club meets the first Tuesday of the month, in room 607. All new and old members are welcome. The tests consist of six questions.

Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council – Advisor:  TBA
Social youth philanthropy group that helps promote awareness in the community regarding different issues such as teen dating violence, through events and activities.  Meets every Thursday at 6pm.

Mediation – Advisor:  TBA
The SHS Mediation Team is made up of trained peer mediators who serve all day mediating typical school conflicts.  The training is done after the first semester and the Student Advisory Committee suggests students who can keep conflicts confidential, will work within the six-step process, and be responsible in checking in during the school day.  Many mediators trained in Middle School continue mediating at SHS, and many former disputants return as mediators.  This is a voluntary service to the school and the community.  SHS was one of the first schools to implement this program in the county, and we have had the program for over 20 years.

Mock Trial – Advisor:  Mrs. Gillen
Mock Trial allows students to become involved in a simulated court case with witnesses and evidence.  The team prepares for a statewide competition in which members assume the roles of lawyers and witnesses on a case given out early in the year.  Meets Wednesdays at 7pm in the history office.

Model United Nations – Advisor:  Ms. Valentine
Model UN debates current issues and drafts resolutions with a goal of “solving the world’s problems in 96 hours”. Meets Tuesdays.

Multi-Cultural Student Union – Advisor:  Ms. Perry
MSU promotes an appreciation and awareness of various cultures throughout the SHS community.  There are a variety of school and community service activities throughout the school year.  Meets the first Tuesday of the month.

Music Appreciation Club – Advisor:  TBA
Musicians and music lovers interact together sharing music and playing music, bringing in different music to share and discuss.  Meets Wednesdays at 2:45 in the Band room.

National Art Honor Society – Advisors:  Mrs. Zielinski; Mr. Cusano
NAHS is an organization of artists who wish to provide art experiences is the community. Students are selected on academic merit, moral character, and service to community. Annual activities include the Mini-Masterpiece Art Contest and financial contribution to the Melissa Todd Memorial Scholarship Fund. Meetings are held in the Art Department by announcement.

National Honor Society - Advisors:  Ms. Clark-Cozza, Mr. Grillo
The National Honor Society recognizes those students who demonstrate superior scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Peer tutoring is a major activity of this group. A GPA of 3.4 or higher, demonstrated superior character, leadership, and service and endorsement by the selection committee are required for membership. (Juniors and Seniors only)

Open Studio Art – Advisors:  Mr. Cusano; Ms. Zielinski
Meets in the Art Department, 3rd floor.

Orchestra – Advisor:  Ms. Sinaguglia
This is an elective class open to all string players and any wind, brass or percussion players interested in playing orchestral repertoire.  Auditions are by appointment.  The group performs at all school concerts and various community venues including the Stamford Town Center.  Attendance required at all performances.  We will meet daily.

Photo Club – Advisor:  Mrs. Wade
The Photo Club is open to students in Photo 1 or Photo 2.  Students work in developing and printing labs to complete class projects.

Physics Club – Advisor:  Mr. DelGuidice
The Physics Club provides students the opportunity to learn the applications of physics principles by developing review activities, participating in field trips, and sponsoring guest lectures and visits to local industries.  Students participate in the Yale Physics Olympiad and other contests, as well as promote the science of physics to other students in the middle and elementary schools.  The club meets Thursdays.

Poetry Slam – Advisor:  TBA
Meets monthly in the Spring.

ReBoot – Advisor – Mrs. Drugge
This is a club that, in connection with students at Darien High School, restores computers and delivers them to students who are in need, especially those who are ESL or Sheltered classes.

Recycling Club – Advisor:   TBA
Our goal is to recycle plastics at SHS and to encourage our peers to be aware of the amount of materials they waste each day.  Meets the first and third Monday of each motnh.

Round Table – Advisor:  Mr. Arcano
The Round Table is an elective production course open to all 11th and 12th graders who have taken the required English courses.  Sophomores may be considered on an individual basis.  The staff is responsible for the publication of the school newspaper.  Any student with an interest in journalism and related activities, such as writing, graphics, researching, computer productions, advertising, business, and leadership is welcome.  All students are welcome to submit articles for publication.  A time commitment is critical.

SHS on the Air – Advisor:  TBA
This is an activity open to seniors only.  Five senior students meet every morning to perform an in-school radio show.  The show produces information to students, staff and teachers about meetings, events, and school functions.  This activity teaches communications skills that could help in college or career.

SHS Gives Back – Advisor:  Ms. Moavero
Meets on Tuesdays in the guidance office.

Ski and Snowboard Club – Advisor:  TBA
This is a club to give the students a chance to ski and snowboard on day trips to northeastern resorts.  Meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays surrounding the trip weekends.

Slavic Heritage Club – Advisor:  Ms. Parchesky
The club exists to familiarize students and staff with the Slavic culture through various cultural events and activities.  Meets are held every Wednesday.

Stamford Teens Against Making Negative Decisions – Advisor:  TBA
S.T.A.N.D. promotes awareness of the dangers of making negative decisions.  Students fundraise in order to bring educational programs to SHS and to support the Jason Lorenti Memorial Scholarship.

Student Council – Advisor:  TBA
The Student Council is an activity where participants meet with faculty, administration, and their advisor to recognize and correct school problems by formulating new procedure or improving existing regulations. Membership is open to all interested students. Meetings are held on a rotating period basis and after school. All members are expected to attend. There are five officers on the student council. Elections are usually held in May. All members run for any office except president. Presidential candidates must be in their junior year.

Strawberry Hill Improv Players – Advisor:  Ms. Nerreau
S.H.I.P. meets once a week to practice improv skills such as those featured on “Whose Line is it Anyway?”  S.H.I.P. puts on 3-4 shows per year.  Meets Wednesdays at 5pm in the auditorium.

Success – Advisor:  TBA
Success is a club for college-bound students who have the goal of succeeding in the future.  Success participates in volunteering and holds meetings to discuss related subjects, projects for the community, SAT’s, etc.  Meets every other Thursday.

Teen Police Academy – Advisor:  Ms. Hadsell
This is an after-school club for students interested in the field of Criminal Justice. The club is designed for students to learn more about law enforcement. We attend field trips and also have guest speakers visit. The School Resource Officers are an integral part of the club and really get the students interested in a fun learning experience!

Tech CrewAdvisor:  TBA
This activity is an integral part of the Strawberry Hill Players. Responsibilities include: set design and building, lighting, sound, developing special effects where needed, handling of properties, care and maintenance of the stage and its environs, plus a myriad of other activities. Stage crew is open to all students interested in participating in theater activities and developing good friends.

Tri-M Music Honor Society – Advisor:  Mrs. Sinaguglia
Tri-M stands for Modern, Music, Masters which is a program sponsored by the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), an international music honor society that motivates and recognizes musical achievement. Students are invited to join based on their musical achievement, commitment, dedication, and attitude. Membership is an honor conferred on a student by the music faculty and current membership for their accomplishments. Activities include planning recitals, fundraising, publicity for concerts, etc. Annual membership fee is required.

VIP – Advisors:  Mrs. Rich
This is a club that volunteers and fundraises for VNHC/Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care.  Meets every other Thursday.

Winter Percussion – Advisor:  Mr. Beratis
An ensemble group open to any student with musical experience and an interest in playing a percussion instrument.  Winter Percussion combines music and marching to create a theatrical presentation with a theme.  This ensemble requires auditions and starts rehearsing their show in December and performs through April.  This group has received both State and Regional championship titles and competes nationally.

Writers Club – Advisor:  Mrs. Drugge
Students in all grades enjoy a weekly meeting to share their writing and keep track of publishing possibilities. Students meet Monday afternoons.

World Language Club – Advisor:  Mr. Gladstone
This club is for students interested in cultural enrichment activities of the Spanish, French and Italian speaking worlds.  The club offers movies, dining, trips and the like.  Meets every Tuesday after school.

Yearbook – Advisor:  Mrs. Wade
This elective class is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors, taking Design and Publication.  Students are responsible for all facets of production including development of a theme, writing coy, selecting photographs, designing layout, and selling ads to businesses and books to the student body.
