Your School Based Health Center (SBHC) is one of more than 65 similar facilities across Connecticut. All are free-standing medical centers located on school grounds.

We are licensed by the Department of Public Health, and provide on-site confidential physical and mental health services to students

SBHCs are staffed by licensed nurse practitioners, clinical social workers, medical assistants and dental staff that specialize in child/adolescent health.  The Centers operate under the guidance of a medical director.

The Stamford High School-Based Health Center is located across from Room 118 on the first floor of the main building.

Common Goals

SBHCs treat each child in a thorough, confidential manner while respecting age, cultural values and family situations.

It is our mission to help students learn about practices that promote their health and well-being.  Each center emphasizes early identification and intervention to prevent serious physical and mental health concerns.

Open to All

All children enrolled at the site school may use the SBHC, regardless of income or health care coverage.  Services are aimed at, but not limited to, students who do not have access to a family doctor or whose families have little or no health insurance. For those with insurance coverage (including Medicaid), SBHCs provide convenient services to supplement care they receive from their regular provider.

Parents may always call the SBHC and request an appointment for their children. Since services cannot be provided unless a signed Parent Permission Form is on file, it is recommended that parents complete the form at the start of the school year.

School staff and SBHCs often work together when a student is in need of more in-depth health care.  All services of the SBHCs are strictly confidential.

Dental Clinic

Located at Westhill High School, the School Based Health Centers' dental clinic is staffed by a Board Certified dentist and is open to all students attending Stamford Public Schools.

Appointments are necessary.
